Crusoe is hiring a full-time Senior Software Engineer for Network Tooling to be based in San Francisco, California. This role involves developing and scaling network infrastructure platforms for Crusoe Cloud and suits experienced distributed systems professionals who want to drive mission-critical operations.
Role Overview
The Senior Software Engineer, Network Tooling position sits within the Cloud Engineering department at Crusoe. The professional in this role will build and maintain platforms that support edge, backbone, and data center operations for Crusoe Cloud. The work centers on delivering reliable, scalable tooling that operations and engineering teams rely on to manage network infrastructure smoothly across diverse environments as the cloud provider grows.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop network state management systems, including network provisioning, configuration management, topology and routing state, and control plane APIs.
Drive engineering efforts to scale control plane systems reliably to handle increasing network scale, device counts, and infrastructure complexity.
Mentor fellow engineers, provide guidance on technical assessments, and perform code reviews to maintain high quality standards.
Partner with product teams to evaluate build versus buy decisions for control plane software, balancing cost, speed, and scalability.
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, product, and engineering groups to align control plane systems with company growth.
Architect fault-tolerant, distributed control plane systems that guarantee high availability and resilience.
Advocate for modern software development methods, infrastructure as code practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
Own strategic initiatives from initial ideation through development and final deployment.
Requirements
Minimum of five years of professional software engineering experience developing backend systems in production environments.
Fluency in at least one modern backend programming language like Python, Java, Rust, C++, or Go.
Strong foundational knowledge of distributed systems principles, including consensus, high availability design, state reconciliation, and fault tolerance.
Demonstrated history of designing scalable and reliable APIs or backend services utilized by multiple internal teams.
Practical familiarity with infrastructure as code tooling and CI/CD pipelines, such as Terraform and Ansible.
Excellent communication abilities paired with experience collaborating across different departments.
Proven capability to mentor engineers and guide technical direction.
Nice to Have
Prior background working with networking software, protocols, or control plane systems like BGP, SDN, routing, or switching.
Experience gained at a large-scale data center operator, hyperscaler, or cloud provider.
Knowledge of network management and telemetry protocols including gRPC, gNMI, or NETCONF.
Experience utilizing Kubernetes-based orchestration or developing custom operators and controllers.
Previous contributions made to open-source networking or infrastructure projects.
