Senior Software Engineer - Model Platform
About this role
Abnormal needs to make feature development fast, responsive, stable, and confident for machine learning and data science teams by scaling model serving and data processing services. Joining the Detection Team as a Senior Software Engineer involves building advanced technology to identify and stop email and cloud-based attacks that were previously undetectable. The person in this role will architect model serving infrastructure, manage streaming pipelines, and develop machine learning training platforms.
Success in the position requires a first-principles approach to building scalable systems and a drive to solve practical problems for real-world users. Candidates should possess an ownership-oriented outlook, comfort with autonomous iteration on novel problems, and a strong background in distributed systems. The role suits engineers who enjoy collaborating closely with data scientists to improve product precision, recall, and engineering velocity.
What you will do
- Architect, design, build, deploy, and maintain model serving infrastructure supporting the detection engine.
- Own projects that scale model serving and data processing services to handle ten times current traffic levels.
- Build platforms to defend against rapidly generated artificial intelligence attacks.
- Manage real-time and near real-time streaming pipelines alongside online feature serving services.
- Construct the machine learning training platform to improve machine learning engineer velocity and product precision and recall.
- Collaborate with machine learning and data science teams by gathering feedback, aligning with strategy, and executing solutions.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers through one-on-ones, pair programming, code reviews, and design reviews.
What you need
- Bring five or more years of experience as a software engineer with hands-on work in machine learning engineering solutions.
- Demonstrate experience maintaining large-scale distributed systems on cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure using cloud engineering best practices.
- Show past work maintaining real-time and near real-time data pipelines or streaming services at high scale.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including data scientists, product managers, and machine learning engineers.
- Translate complex requirements into actionable technical tasks and adapt to feedback in a fast-paced environment.
- Understand machine learning workflows such as feature development at 50K+ QPS, offline and online equivalency, and large batch training jobs.
