Role Overview

The Messaging Infra team at Reddit needs a Senior Software Engineer to solve complex distributed messaging challenges. The messaging layer handles over fifty million messages per second, supports massive network traffic, and manages petabytes of live topic data. The selected candidate will collaborate with internal teams like machine learning, search, and artificial intelligence to design scalable technical solutions that support platform growth while maintaining high availability and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Shape and contribute to the long-term technical strategy for the team and broader organization.
Maintain and refine messaging infrastructure designed for asynchronous communication across services serving hundreds of millions of users.
Take ownership of both managed and self-hosted infrastructure that handles produce and consume requests.
Build necessary tooling and automation to operate the messaging infrastructure efficiently.

Requirements

Minimum of five years of experience building internet-scale software, with a preference for machine learning storage infrastructure backgrounds.
Software development proficiency in at least one programming language such as Golang, Python, C++, or Java.
Practical experience working with Kafka and Kubernetes.
Hands-on background implementing optimizations, bug fixes, and features for distributed messaging systems.
Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with engineering, product, machine learning, and data science stakeholders.
A degree in Computer Science or an equivalent technical field.
