About this role
Samsara is hiring a Senior Software Engineer II to design and ship full-stack features end to end across backend, frontend, and mobile. The team builds products for physical operations by processing massive datasets from IoT sensors, cameras, and connected devices to turn real-world data into operational solutions. Engineers in this role take ownership of technically complex areas, define technical strategies, and build scalable systems behind AI-driven products.
This role exists to support rapid company growth at a multi-billion dollar scale, tackling ambiguous problems and developing new product capabilities from scratch. What you will do
- Take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas and run with them independently.
- Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities spanning backend services, APIs, and customer-facing UI.
- Design and ship full-stack features end to end across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile to deliver AI-powered products.
- Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous operational problems into clear technical plans.
- Build and scale the systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and workflows that deliver intelligence to operators.
- Raise the bar for surrounding engineers through code reviews, design reviews, technical mentorship, and setting quality standards.
What you need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale.
- Strong full-stack fundamentals with comfort working across backend services, APIs, and frontend web or mobile environments.
- Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks such as Go, Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, or React.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout while managing ambiguity.
- Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products by turning AI capabilities into customer-facing applications.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Experience shipping AI-powered features in production, including LLM-based products, agentic workflows, or recommendation systems.
- Comfort with modern AI-augmented development workflows like Cursor and LLMs to multiply output and accelerate delivery.
- Background working with real-world operational data such as telematics, sensor data, work orders, and inspections.
- A proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture and best practices.
- Side projects, open-source contributions, or other signals of curiosity and drive outside of the day job.

The range of annual base salary for full-time employees is $154,700 to $260,000 USD. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors including city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
