Role Overview
The Senior Software Engineer - DevX position at Reddit is a remote opportunity within the United States focused on designing and building the next generation of developer tooling, infrastructure, and AI-powered workflows. This role suits an experienced platform or infrastructure engineer who wants to improve developer productivity, service reliability, and software delivery for hundreds of engineers across the company.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate cross-functionally across Reddit Engineering to understand internal user requirements, rapidly prototype solutions, and iterate based on feedback.
Design and construct backend systems, infrastructure, APIs, and platform capabilities that enhance daily developer workflows.
Create scalable and reliable systems encompassing both artificial intelligence-driven developer workflows and traditional non-AI engineering systems.
Lead high-impact projects throughout the developer tooling ecosystem by writing and reviewing code, drafting design documents, aligning stakeholders, and making pragmatic technical tradeoffs.
Integrate developer workflows with existing infrastructure, security, source control, deployment, continuous integration, and operational systems.
Author maintainable APIs, libraries, services, and platforms to support internal developer tooling at scale.
Elevate team processes, tools, and best practices regarding reliability, usability, scalability, and maintainability.
Mentor fellow engineers and contribute to a roadmap addressing genuine developer needs.
Requirements
5+ years of hands-on, post-graduation, non-internship professional software development experience centered on backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
3+ years of industry experience working with large-scale distributed systems, including the creation and improvement of scalable and reliable services.
Strong proficiency in Go, featuring significant production experience with the language.
Background in designing and implementing maintainable APIs utilizing GraphQL, REST, HTTP, or gRPC.
Prior experience building platforms, developer tools, internal systems, frameworks, or libraries used by other engineers.
Familiarity with infrastructure, Kubernetes, cloud providers, and other systems supporting modern software delivery.
Practical experience utilizing artificial intelligence-powered developer tools and workflows with good judgment regarding productivity.
Proven track record of leading large, complex, ambiguous, and high-impact projects requiring stakeholder alignment and cross-team collaboration.
User-focused mindset displaying empathy for internal engineering users, prioritizing usability, quality, reliability, and scalability.
Excellent communication skills capable of influencing technical direction across various stakeholders.
Self-directed and action-oriented approach with comfort operating in ambiguity.
Nice to Have
Professional background in developer experience, internal platforms, developer productivity, or developer tooling.
Experience building tools or workflows specifically tailored for internal engineering users.
History of building or expanding CI/CD systems while partnering with teams managing build, test, and release workflows.
Familiarity with GitHub Enterprise Server or large-scale source control platforms.
Working knowledge of Python.
Experience measuring the impact of developer productivity or platform work through analytics, experimentation, measured rollouts, qualitative feedback, or reliability metrics.

Salary and Benefits
Base salary range: $190,800 to $267,100 USD.
Eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units and potentially a commission depending on the position.
