Role Overview

The Senior Software Engineer, Data position at TRM Labs is a remote, full-time role based in North America within the R&D department. This opportunity suits an experienced engineer with a background in distributed systems who wants to build scalable data services that analyze blockchain activity at petabyte scale.

Key Responsibilities

Build highly scalable features that integrate with dozens of different blockchains.
Design and architect intricate data models for optimal storage and retrieval to achieve sub-second latency when querying blockchain data.
Collaborate across departments by partnering with data scientists, backend engineers, and product managers to design and implement novel data models.
Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and customer-facing teams to translate user needs into scalable data solutions.
Write clear design docs, proactively share tradeoffs, and build alignment across disciplines.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
5+ years of hands-on experience in architecting scalable API development, distributed system architecture, and guiding projects from ideation to production deployment.
Exceptional programming skills in Python, alongside proficiency in SQL or SparkSQL.
In-depth experience with data stores like BigQuery and Postgres.
Experience owning 0–1 systems by building pipelines, data platforms, or ML/BI workflows from scratch.
Proficiency in data pipeline and workflow orchestration tools like Airflow and DBT.
Expertise in data processing technologies and streaming workflows including Dataflow, Spark, Kafka, and Flink.
Competence in deploying and monitoring infrastructure within public cloud platforms using tools such as Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Datadog.
Proven ability in loading, querying, and transforming extensive datasets.

Nice to Have

Experience with Large Language Models or AI-powered workflows such as prompt engineering, internal tooling, or semantic search.

The estimated base salary range for this role is $190,000 to $220,000, with individual pay determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, this role may be eligible to participate in TRM’s equity plan.
