Senior Software Engineer, AI Enablement
About this role
Engineers who thrive on building internal platforms and scalable infrastructure primitives will find a strong fit on the AI Enablement team at Chime Financial. The team focuses on creating internal systems like Archimedes, Bosun, and easyRAG that serve as the foundation for LLM-powered applications, developer workflows, and AI assistants used across the company. Daily work involves designing APIs and SDKs, establishing golden path patterns for responsible AI usage, and partnering with security and legal departments to maintain cost control, governance, and safety.
This role exists to turn emerging artificial intelligence capabilities into durable, reusable features that help internal teams scale safely and efficiently. Successful candidates bring a strong background in distributed systems or platform engineering, hands-on experience with machine learning services, and coding proficiency in languages such as Python, Go, or TypeScript. Participants in this position will help shape how internal tools integrate artificial intelligence while balancing developer velocity with rigorous observability and cost management.
What you will do
- Build and evolve internal AI platforms such as Archimedes, Bosun, and easyRAG to enable teams to develop and scale LLM-powered applications and workflows.
- Design and implement reusable platform capabilities including APIs, SDKs, templates, and shared services for safe AI tool development.
- Prototype and productionize new AI capabilities by identifying high-leverage use cases and turning successful patterns into durable platform features.
- Define and improve golden path patterns for LLM usage that balance developer velocity with safety, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Establish evaluation, observability, and cost-management practices across AI systems covering quality, latency, safety, and spend.
- Partner with Security, Risk, and Legal teams to implement practical guardrails for responsible AI development and usage.
- Collaborate with engineers across Chime to embed AI into internal tools, workflows, and employee experiences while driving consistency and standardization.
What you need
- Significant experience as a software engineer building distributed systems, platform services, or internal developer tools.
- Hands-on experience building with LLMs or machine learning services and shipping production-quality features on top of them.
- Strong coding skills in at least one of Python, Go, or TypeScript/JavaScript, with comfort working across services, CLIs, and internal tooling.
- A platform mindset focused on reusable primitives, contracts, and paved roads rather than one-off solutions.
- Familiarity with AI-specific engineering concerns such as evaluation, prompt and version management, observability, cost control, safety, and data privacy.
- Experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders like Security, Risk, Product, and Operations to influence direction through technical judgment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
Benefits
- Comprehensive health, financial, and wellbeing benefits designed to support you at every stage of life
- Generous vacation policy and company-wide paid days off
- Up to 22 weeks of paid parental leave for birthing parents and 12 weeks of paid parental leave for non-birthing parents
