About this role

Helsing needs a foundational quality leader to build a robust quality management system and manufacturing infrastructure from the ground up for their brand-new facility in Martinsburg, West Virginia. As a founding member of the quality engineering team, the incoming engineer will own the design and implementation of quality processes, control plans, and supplier quality programs that ensure products meet rigorous standards from concept through steady-state production.

Working hands-on across the factory standup, this person will specify and qualify inspection equipment, configure Manufacturing Execution Systems for quality traceability, and drive root cause analysis using corrective action reporting. Someone who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment with heavy cross-functional collaboration between supply chain, manufacturing engineering, and production teams will succeed here.

What you will do

  • Lead and support PFMEA studies to identify process risks and translate findings into robust control plans.
  • Develop and implement receiving inspection plans to ensure incoming materials and components meet quality requirements.
  • Specify, procure, and qualify inspection equipment needed to support in-process and final inspection activities.
  • Build and maintain corrective action reporting processes to drive root cause analysis and effective resolutions.
  • Manage the timeline and budget for quality engineering workstreams as part of the broader factory standup effort.
  • Set up and configure MES processes from a quality data and process control perspective, including traceability and reporting.
  • Support AS9100 documentation, implementation, and internal and external auditing to ensure site certification.

What you need

  • Hold a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate 5-10 years of experience in quality engineering, ideally within aviation or automotive manufacturing environments.
  • Possess hands-on experience supporting PFMEA studies and developing control plans.
  • Show direct experience developing receiving inspection plans and procuring inspection equipment.
  • Bring background in supplier quality control, including supplier audits, qualification, and ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Have familiarity with AS9100 documentation support and auditing.
  • Maintain U.S. citizenship as required by the position.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience in drone, UAS, or aerospace/defense manufacturing
  • Experience standing up quality management systems at a greenfield manufacturing facility
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certifications
  • CAD proficiency for reviewing part prints and inspection criteria
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949 quality systems in addition to AS9100

Benefits
