About this role

Sigma Computing is seeking a Senior Product Designer, AI for a full-time, four-day on-site position based in San Francisco, California. This unique role blends interaction design with AI engineering, making it an ideal match for creative professionals who want to build production-ready intelligent systems.

Role Overview

Sigma Computing is expanding its design team and looking for a Senior Product Designer to bridge the gap between interaction design and AI engineering. This is not a traditional design job. Candidates will utilize Figma while also writing code with AI tools, training models, evaluating performance, and rethinking standard user interfaces when the system itself reasons. The position requires working four days a week on-site at the San Francisco office.

Key Responsibilities

Leverage LLMs during the early stages to clarify project scope, draft specifications, uncover edge cases, and achieve team alignment.
Build working software interfaces utilizing AI coding tools and merge functional code directly into production when appropriate.
Prototype interactive experiences in code with tools like Cursor and Claude Code, directing the structure, interaction, and behavior while AI handles the heavy implementation.
Collaborate closely with the engineering department to determine which features advance to the product and which remain validated spikes.
Correct minor interaction and refinement issues directly within production code.
Create brand-new conversational interface interaction paradigms, establishing novel patterns for how users direct, trust, and converse with AI systems in data environments.
Construct evaluation frameworks, reusable skills, and tooling to guarantee predictable and improving AI functionality over time.
Iterate on model training and evaluations to enhance output design performance.
Formulate craft standards and principles regarding AI-native user experiences that the broader team can utilize.

Requirements

Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in interaction design or design engineering.
Hands-on experience with modern AI tooling, including building with AI coding assistants rather than just prompting.
Demonstrated ability to utilize AI coding assistants to ship real products or side projects, with the capability to explain the building process and AI acceleration.
Experience writing evaluation frameworks, prompt libraries, agents, or skills for intelligent systems.
Solid foundational knowledge in interaction design, including knowing when to introduce a new pattern or expand an existing one.
Clear perspectives on AI user experience elements such as trust signals, error recovery, and the progressive disclosure of reasoning.
Excellent communication skills to present design decisions clearly to product managers, engineers, machine learning researchers, and executives.
A comprehensive portfolio featuring AI-powered or AI-adjacent product work that displays interaction problem-solving, released designs, system-wide thinking, and clear development processes.
