Role Overview

Trellis is seeking a Senior Principal Backend Engineer for the Conversational AI team at Savvy to shape the future of AI-driven customer experiences remotely across the USA. This full-time role suits an experienced software professional ready to build intelligent systems that power natural, engaging user conversations.

Key Responsibilities

Own ideation and execution of high-impact projects that influence user experience and business outcomes.
Shape and evolve the Conversational AI Engineering roadmap alongside product and technical leadership.
Incept projects by identifying opportunities, designing solutions, and leading implementation.
Guide integration efforts with external agencies and insurance carriers.
Normalize, rank, and evaluate results using machine learning-based predictions to determine optimal user paths.
Collaborate with the Data Science team to leverage MLMs in tools like DataRobot for retention forecasting and decision logic.
Ensure scalability and performance across the platform during ongoing company growth.

Requirements

7+ years of experience developing software in a production environment.
4+ years of experience in a senior engineer role.
Ability to lead projects from conception through execution.
Production experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
Proven background working in backend systems, designing RESTful APIs, and codifying business logic on top of data stores.
Exceptional ability to communicate clearly and concisely in Slack and technical documents.
Experience in product development as a key decision maker.
Cross-functional leadership and collaboration experience.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with GCP, Looker, and BigQuery.
