Role Overview

Trellis is hiring a remote Principal Backend Engineer for the Conversational AI team to architect intelligent systems and scale natural user interactions. This full-time role suits an experienced engineer with a strong background in backend systems and artificial intelligence looking to impact a growing insurtech platform.

Key Responsibilities

Guide the engineering group in delivering robust, tested technical architectures.
Own projects across the entire software lifecycle from initial planning to ongoing maintenance.
Translate broad product goals into detailed technical blueprints for stakeholder review.
Drive system quality and mentor peers through detailed code reviews and knowledge sharing.
Assist with onboarding new engineering team members.

Requirements

Minimum of five years of software development experience in production settings.
At least two years operating in a senior engineering capacity.
Production familiarity with TypeScript and Node.js.
Background building backend architectures, creating RESTful APIs, and implementing business logic over data stores.
Prior experience making key product development decisions.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly Google Cloud.
