About this role

Role Overview

Sezzle is hiring a remote Senior Payments Engineer based in Argentina to own, build, and scale the core systems behind the company's acquiring and payment-processing infrastructure. This role suits an experienced backend specialist with a passion for fintech, distributed systems, and AI-driven development workflows who wants to shape the future of digital commerce.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop robust backend services primarily using Golang to integrate smoothly with third-party payment gateways, processors, and card networks.
Manage end-to-end money movement processes, covering transaction authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, reconciliation, and dispute or chargeback management.
Implement fault-tolerant, idempotent, and auditable transaction processing inside a distributed framework using message queues and transactional outbox patterns.
Ensure all operations align with strict PCI DSS compliance guidelines, including secure payment data handling, tokenization, and 3DS/SCA authentication flows.
Monitor financial transaction health metrics, such as system latency, processor performance, decline rates, and settlement accuracy, to drive continuous optimization.
Integrate large language models like Claude directly into everyday engineering routines to fast-track research, coding, system design, testing, and documentation.
Mentor engineering peers, guide technical decisions, and occasionally lead focused project teams to successful delivery.

Requirements

Seven or more years of professional engineering experience with a strong emphasis on backend development, fintech platforms, or complex money-movement systems.
Advanced proficiency in Golang or demonstrable comparable experience using Python to build reliable REST APIs.
Proven hands-on background connecting software with payment processors, acquirers, or gateways, alongside a solid grasp of core payment mechanics like idempotency and tokenization.
Practical experience designing distributed cloud applications leveraging message brokers like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS, alongside transactional outbox architectures.
Demonstrated, active use of Claude or comparable LLM tools to optimize research, communication, and technical productivity.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field.

Nice to Have

Direct professional familiarity with major acquiring ecosystems such as Adyen, Stripe, Marqeta, or Fiserv.
Working knowledge of regulatory standards like PCI DSS, payments compliance, network tokenization, and 3DS/SCA.
Experience applying SQL-based relational databases alongside modern ORM frameworks.
Familiarity with production observability tooling and APM platforms like Datadog, Prometheus, or New Relic.
Background in DevOps, continuous integration and deployment pipelines, and containerized microservices managed via Kubernetes on AWS.
A proven history of shipping commercial payment APIs and aligning technical roadmaps with direct customer feedback.
