The Senior Payments Engineer position at Sezzle is a remote, full-time backend role based in Brazil that involves owning and scaling critical acquiring and payment-processing systems. Key Responsibilities

Design and develop robust backend services utilizing Golang to interface directly with payment gateways, processors, and card networks.
Manage end-to-end money movement workflows, encompassing transaction authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, reconciliation, and chargeback resolution.
Implement idempotent, fault-tolerant, and auditable transaction processing mechanics within distributed environments using transactional outbox strategies and message queues.
Maintain security standards within PCI DSS parameters, incorporating tokenization, network tokens, and secure payment handling protocols.
Monitor payment system health, tracking metrics related to latency, authorization rates, decline patterns, and settlement accuracy.
Leverage AI tools like Claude in daily tasks to streamline research, design, coding, testing, and technical documentation.
Mentor fellow engineers, provide peer support, and occasionally lead focused project delivery teams.

Requirements

Seven or more years of overall backend or full-stack software engineering experience, specifically focused on financial technology, payments, or money-movement infrastructure.
Strong professional coding proficiency in Golang or substantial comparable experience using Python for REST API development.
Hands-on background connecting with acquiring systems, payment processors, or gateways, along with a deep understanding of payments fundamentals.
Practical familiarity with distributed, cloud-based setups using queues and architectural patterns like transactional outboxes.
Demonstrated, hands-on utilization of large language models such as Claude to boost productivity and technical communication.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Nice to Have

Direct integration experience with major payment acquiring ecosystems like Adyen, Stripe, Marqeta, or Fiserv.
Exposure to regulatory frameworks and standards including PCI DSS, 3DS/SCA, or network tokenization.
Proficiency with SQL-based relational databases managed through object-relational mapping tools.
Familiarity with production observability platforms such as Prometheus, Datadog, or New Relic.
Background in DevOps practices, CI/CD pipeline management, and containerized microservices deployed on Kubernetes and AWS.
