Role Overview

The Senior MLOps Engineer position sits within the ISR Analytics department at ICEYE in Berlin, reporting to the VP of ISR Analytics. The role focuses on building reproducible infrastructure, workflows, and deployment practices for AI models that convert synthetic aperture radar satellite imagery into actionable defense intelligence. This is a hands-on individual contributor role operating under a hybrid workplace model.

Key Responsibilities

Build training, evaluation, and packaging pipelines to transition models from experiments to versioned releases.

Deploy and serve models on Kubernetes with GPUs across cloud, on-premise, and air-gapped environments.

Package models, weights, and dependencies to facilitate offline installation and upgrading.

Manage GPU compute resources, including scheduling, drivers, utilization, and cost across different hardware.

Track data, experiments, and model lineage to guarantee auditability and reproducibility of results.

Monitor production models for performance, drift, and failures in environments without external connectivity.

Write internal tooling in Python and contribute directly to the model codebase alongside the AI team.

Requirements

Senior hands-on engineering background, excluding management or architecture tracks.

Practical experience deploying and operating machine learning models in production environments.

Strong proficiency in Python with the ability to read and modify machine learning code using libraries such as PyTorch.

Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes and container technologies, including GPU workloads.

Experience with infrastructure as code and CI/CD tools such as Terraform, Helm, and GitHub Actions.

Daily utilization of AI tools for code generation, configuration, and test creation.

High autonomy in identifying problems, proposing solutions, and driving initiatives forward.

Motivation to contribute to defense technology solutions.

Nice to Have

Deployment experience in on-premise, edge, or air-gapped environments.

Knowledge of model serving and optimization tools like Triton, TorchServe, KServe, ONNX, TensorRT, and quantization.

Background in computer vision, geospatial data, satellite imagery, raster data, or PostGIS.

Familiarity with ML pipeline and tracking frameworks such as MLflow, Kubeflow, Argo Workflows, DVC, or Weights & Biases.

Experience with large-scale imagery data processing using Dask, Ray, Spark, or object storage.

Strong individual contributor background in startups or fast-paced product launch environments.

Clear communication skills tailored for working alongside researchers and engineers.
