About this role

This role suits engineers who want real ownership and enjoy working hands-on with machine learning systems, compilers, and edge devices. This Senior ML Performance Engineer position is based in London, United Kingdom at Wayve, where the team optimises inference for large transformer-based models on in-vehicle compute.

Role Overview

Wayve is hiring a Senior ML Performance Engineer to focus on inference optimisation for edge accelerators and GPUs. The professional in this position works closely with model, platform, and deployment teams to transition research models into reliable production driving systems. Team members operate in a hybrid setup combining office collaboration with remote flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

Profile inference performance across model graphs, compiler and runtime behaviour, kernel execution, and memory movement.
Implement and validate optimisations in compilers, runtimes, and kernels, including fusion, scheduling, quantisation-aware performance, and custom kernels.
Build benchmarking and regression tests to track performance across various models, devices, and software releases.
Optimise for edge targets such as NVIDIA Orin/Thor and Qualcomm platforms.
Contribute to team tooling, documentation, and technical discussions centered on machine learning performance.

Requirements

Experience improving performance in production or production-adjacent systems dealing with latency, memory, bandwidth, power, thermal, or cost constraints.
Strong hands-on experience using at least one relevant technology stack such as TensorRT, CUDA, Qualcomm QNN, Triton, or OpenCL.
Comfort working from high-level model behaviour down to kernel and runtime-level execution.
Solid software engineering fundamentals encompassing debugging, profiling, testing, and maintainable code.
Clear communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across machine learning, systems, and deployment teams.

Nice to Have

Experience deploying or benchmarking machine learning models on embedded or edge devices.
Familiarity with NVIDIA or Qualcomm SoCs and related performance tooling.
Proficiency in Python and C++.
