About this role

The Weather Company is seeking a Senior Meteorologist to join its team on-site in Phoenix, Arizona, working directly with a key enterprise client in the ground transportation sector. This role suits a seasoned atmospheric science professional with a passion for delivering critical, hyper-local weather insights to support fleet safety and operational continuity.

Role Overview

As a Senior Operational Meteorologist, the professional is embedded with a major ground transportation client in Phoenix. The core mission involves forecasting localized driving and road conditions to protect a large vehicle fleet from weather hazards such as flash floods, snow, ice, fog, and dust storms. Operating largely on solo shifts, the selected candidate functions as the primary meteorological authority, requiring independent decision-making skills and the ability to translate complex data for non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Generate hyper-local forecasts focusing on surface-level driving risks, including flash flooding, winter precipitation, and low-visibility events.
Function independently as the sole meteorological expert during isolated solo shifts to make critical decisions with minimal supervision.
Track real-time observations, radar, and proprietary sensor data to distribute immediate short-fuse alerts for sudden weather changes.
Translate intricate meteorological details into clear, concise updates for non-meteorologist operations teams.
Partner directly with ground operations and fleet management to proactively mitigate risks and reduce service disruptions.
Apply specialized urban forecasting methods to evaluate microclimates in the Phoenix metropolitan area and other zones.
Maintain constant situational awareness across multiple operating domains to support 24/7 fleet safety.
Work non-standard schedules, which typically encompass evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Produce post-event summaries and case studies detailing how weather phenomena affect vehicle sensor performance and operations.
Leverage advanced meteorological software and AI-driven models to refine hyper-local road forecasts.
Lead regular briefings with client leadership regarding upcoming weather patterns, seasonal shifts, and long-term operational risks.
Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with client personnel through daily interaction.

Requirements

Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
Bring a minimum of 5 years of operational weather forecasting experience.
Demonstrate exceptional communication abilities to explain complex weather data to non-technical audiences.
Show a proven willingness to work flexible schedules, including mandatory weekends, holidays, and varied shifts.
Exhibit the ability to thrive and maintain high productivity during isolated solo shifts.
