In this capacity, the manager will guide execution, mentor engineering talent, and establish organizational standards for AI toolchains and backend architectures. By partnering closely with product and design stakeholders, the successful candidate translates broad strategic goals into actionable technical roadmaps. This role exists to redefine partnership value for restaurant owners, allowing them to spend less time on unglamorous administrative tasks and more time on hospitality.
What you will do
- Shape and direct the technical vision and execution for the Toast IQ platform.
- Maintain and improve internal platforms, documentation, feature lifecycles, and evaluation processes for internal engineering teams.
- Deconstruct large product initiatives into incremental milestones to deliver measurable outcomes with high quality.
- Establish organizational standards, architectural patterns, and best practices for AI toolchains.
- Coach and mentor engineers and managers to foster technical growth and leadership capabilities.
- Champion the adoption of AI tools to accelerate development velocity and pioneer new engineering practices.
- Partner with design and product stakeholders to deliver crafted experiences mapping novel interaction patterns to customer needs.
What you need
- Bring at least five years of experience leading high-performing engineering teams in production environments.
- Demonstrate strength in modern backend architecture, including scalable microservices and robust API surfaces.
- Show fluency in modern mobile and web architecture such as component libraries, build systems, CI/CD, and microfrontend patterns.
- Possess experience owning or contributing to internal developer platforms supporting multiple product teams.
- Maintain clear principles regarding the appropriate application of large language models and agents for customer needs.
- Translate broad strategic goals into clear technical roadmaps and execution plans.
- Exhibit strong communication skills with a track record of influencing senior technical, product, and design leaders.
