Role Overview

Airwallex is seeking a Senior Manager for Merchant Risk Operations in Singapore to lead the APAC merchant risk operations team for payments. The professional in this role will own operational performance across the region, aligning portfolio risk levels with enterprise risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities

Manage end-to-end operational performance for APAC merchant risk operations, tracking SLAs, quality, loss metrics, and customer impact.
Oversee the design and execution of merchant monitoring, investigation, and escalation workflows throughout the region.
Partner with global legal, risk, and compliance teams to implement new policies and operational control changes.
Collaborate with Product and Engineering to evolve risk tooling, including rules engines, case management, analytics surfaces, and AI or LLM-based workflows.
Champion automation and artificial intelligence to reduce manual tasks, accelerate decisions, and improve reviewer efficiency.
Drive key performance metrics such as fraud and chargeback ratios to meet company objectives.
Engage in stakeholder management across risk, compliance, commercial, and product departments.

Requirements

Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in payments, fintech, or acquiring.
At least 3 years of people management experience.
Expertise in merchant risk, covering credit and fraud risk or brand risk and compliance management.
Track record of managing senior individual contributors within multi-location teams.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

Strong analytical and data skills for using dashboards and data tools to diagnose issues and design experiments.
Experience scaling risk operations in a global fintech or top-tier payments company.
Hands-on background partnering with Product and Engineering to design risk tooling using AI, machine learning, or large language models.
Mandarin language proficiency.
