Role Overview

Airwallex seeks a Senior Data Scientist, Analytics (Regulatory Reporting) for its Singapore location. The person in this role acts as the primary analytics partner for Regulatory Compliance and Financial Crime Compliance teams. Responsibilities include building robust data foundations, validation frameworks, and self-service analytics for regulators, auditors, and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Lead analytics and data design for priority regulatory reports spanning regulatory compliance, financial crime, and financial regulatory returns.
Partner with Regulatory Compliance, FCC, Finance, DataOps, and Data Engineering to standardise common dimensions across reports.
Co-design data models and mart-layer logic with Data Engineering, establishing structured, tested, and versioned upstream dimensions.
Define automated test suites and manual quality assurance playbooks for report submissions.
Conduct deep-dive analyses for anomalies, requests for information, or audit findings to quantify impact and propose remediation.
Shape requirements for a scalable regulatory reporting and risk analytics platform.
Champion analytical rigor, documentation, and validation best practices while providing informal mentorship to adjacent teams.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience extracting and manipulating large data with SQL, along with scripting experience in Python, Shell, or R.
Minimum of 5 years of proven risk management experience or equivalent, covering analytics, modeling implementation, and stakeholder management.
Familiarity with analytics engineering practices, including writing modular, tested, and documented SQL transformations and layered thinking.
Experience building exploratory and production-grade analytics using modern data tools where SQL, Python, and visualization coexist.
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills for explaining technical topics and influencing cross-functional partners.

Nice to Have

Direct experience working on regulatory reporting for the risk and compliance domain.
Hands-on experience with dbt models, tests, docs, and macros alongside a modern data warehouse such as BigQuery, Databricks, or Snowflake.
Understanding of data pipeline design across transformation, application, and reporting layers.
Exposure to model risk or AI/ML governance and an interest in intersecting frameworks.
Experience working with cross-functional, geographically distributed teams.
