Role Overview

Quora seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join the distribution team and focus on the Quora product. The professional in this role takes charge of the second-phase ranking model utilized in recommendation systems such as feeds, notifications, and digest emails.

Key Responsibilities

Enhance current machine learning ranking models using technical expertise and programming skills.
Manage machine learning systems from end to end, covering data pipelines, feature engineering, candidate extraction, model training, and production integration.
Discover new areas where machine learning can be applied across the Quora product.
Collaborate with fellow machine learning engineers to build efficient algorithms and systems.

Requirements

Available for meetings and impromptu communication during coordination hours between 9 AM and 3 PM Pacific Time, Monday through Friday.
Minimum of three years of professional experience focused on ranking or recommendation models.
Strong comprehension of the mathematical foundations behind machine learning algorithms.
Demonstrated background in constructing end-to-end machine learning systems.
Solid interpersonal and communication skills.
Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or PhD degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline.

Nice to Have

Five or more years of professional coding experience using Python or C++.
Background working with generative recommendation systems.
Experience applying user behavior modeling, user sequence modeling, transformers, or long sequence modeling to ranking tasks.
Leadership experience managing large-scale projects involving multiple engineers.
Positive, flexible team player attitude with strong interpersonal abilities.

US salary range of $189,507 to $274,604 USD plus equity and benefits.
Canadian salary ranges varying by location, such as $243,330 to $282,076 CAD for Toronto and Vancouver, and $227,108 to $263,271 CAD for other Canadian locations, plus equity and benefits.
