Role Overview

GoFundMe is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join the team in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with an in-office requirement of three times per week. This position suits an experienced engineering professional looking to design and implement next-generation machine learning solutions that power personalization, recommendation, and search systems.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement AI and machine learning systems spanning personalization, recommendations, fraud detection, content understanding, and batch or real-time inference applications.
Build taxonomy and ontology structures along with classification and tagging systems to provide foundational signals for company-wide discovery.
Partner with product and platform stakeholders to evolve catalogs and entity understanding that elevate user experiences and relevance.
Apply graph-based techniques, such as knowledge graphs and graph algorithms, to improve recommendations, retrieval, and personalization.
Develop fault-tolerant, high-throughput, low-latency services with a strong emphasis on scalability, observability, and reliability.
Optimize ML system performance using offline and online metrics such as ranking quality, coverage, diversity, and engagement.
Streamline machine learning workflows and help establish standardized operating procedures.
Collaborate closely with data scientists, software engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders.

Requirements

At least four years of hands-on experience in machine learning, applied ML engineering, data science, or related domains with a focus on production environments.
Background in search and retrieval systems, ranking and relevance, recommendation systems, or personalization platforms.
Experience building end-to-end machine learning systems covering data pipelines, feature engineering, model training, serving, and monitoring.
Familiarity with catalogs, taxonomies, entity resolution, and semantic embeddings.
Knowledge of graph databases and graph machine learning for retrieval and recommendation use cases.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to present technical concepts to various stakeholders.

Nice to Have

Advanced degree such as a Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related technical field.
Experience combining search, recommendation, and personalization capabilities into end-to-end discovery journeys.
A sense of humor.
