Role Overview

Garner Health is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to join the Business Technology Corporate Engineering team in New York City. Operating out of the Financial District office with a three-day in-office requirement on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, this position involves taking full ownership of high-friction operational workflows. The professional selected will replace manual and fragmented processes with durable, API-driven systems, working closely across security, engineering, IT, and business departments.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and automate operational workflows covering onboarding, offboarding, access management, and service delivery.
Replace fragmented manual tasks with scalable, API-driven systems and maintain integrations across HRIS, SaaS platforms, cloud environments, and identity providers.
Build internal tools and custom automation using platforms like Retool, Okta Workflows, and custom scripts.
Apply infrastructure-as-code principles to manage and version system configurations.
Integrate artificial intelligence into operational workflows to enhance ticket routing, knowledge retrieval, and decision support.
Design automated access and security workflows that strictly enforce least-privilege principles and auditability.
Drive cross-functional initiatives independently from initial problem definition to final rollout.

Requirements

Possess 4 to 7+ years of professional experience in IT, automation, platform engineering, or related fields.
Demonstrate strong programming or scripting abilities in languages such as Python, Go, Node.js, or PowerShell.
Bring practical experience building API-driven automation across diverse systems and designing multi-tool workflows.
Utilize infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform to manage configurations.
Willingness to work onsite in the New York City office three days per week.

Nice to Have

Hands-on experience implementing and managing identity and access systems including Okta, SSO, SCIM, and RBAC.
Proven skill in scaling internal tools utilizing platforms such as Retool or low-code options.
Familiarity with security orchestration and automation tools like Tines.
Practical background in applying AI and LLMs to optimize operational workflows.
Understanding of security and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, HIPAA, and HITRUST.

The annual target base salary range for this position is $189,000 to $220,000, determined by qualifications, skills, and applicable laws.
