Senior Engineer, Storage (File & Block)
About this role
The storage team at CoreWeave builds and operates high-performance, multi-tenant file and block storage services that power large AI training and inference workloads as well as internal stateful systems. This role centers on owning the data path and control plane for file and block storage, running natively on the company hardware fleet, and delivering customer-facing capabilities that unblock petabyte-scale deals. Candidates will design scalable storage solutions, work closely with compute and platform teams, and ensure storage performance keeps GPUs fed.
This position exists to transform storage from a follower of GPU growth into a multiplier of it by scaling infrastructure for enterprise and regulated customers. An ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in distributed systems, networked file systems, and storage control planes, along with a collaborative approach to solving complex engineering challenges.
What you will do
- Design, build, and operate highly scalable, multi-tenant file and block storage natively on the storage fleet and delivered through Kubernetes.
- Own the file system data path, focusing on NFS hot-path reliability, IO resilience, and performance for small-file and IOPS-heavy AI workloads.
- Build a native block storage service providing durable, high-performance block volumes for customer workloads and internal stateful services.
- Deliver file and block as first-class Kubernetes citizens by designing and shipping a backend-neutral CSI driver with dynamic provisioning, resize, snapshots, and RWO block volumes.
- Construct the control plane to handle multi-tenant isolation, quota, QoS, snapshots, key management, audit, and lifecycle policies.
- Improve the reliability, durability, and observability of the storage stack by partnering with operations to monitor metrics and telemetry.
- Work cross-functionally with platform, product, and infrastructure teams to deliver seamless storage across the stack and tier cold data.
What you need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Six to ten years of experience building storage systems, distributed systems, or infrastructure services.
- Strong hands-on experience with distributed or networked file systems and block storage in production environments.
- Demonstrated depth in the storage data path including IO performance, caching, and resilience under load.
- Experience with multi-tenant services or storage control planes covering provisioning, tenancy, quotas, and data-protection features.
- Proficiency in a systems or back-end language with strong preference for Go, while C or Rust are considered a plus.
- Experience building on Kubernetes including controllers, operators, CRDs, and CSI integration.
Nice to have
- Experience with distributed or parallel storage stacks such as Ceph/RBD, Lustre, GPFS/Spectrum Scale, BeeGFS, WEKA, VAST, or DAOS.
- Familiarity with storage observability tools and telemetry pipelines like ClickHouse, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Exposure to high-performance data-path technologies including RDMA, GPUDirect Storage, RoCE, InfiniBand, and SPDK.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance - 100% paid for by CoreWeave
- Company-paid Life Insurance and voluntary supplemental life insurance
- Short and long-term disability insurance
- Flexible Spending Account and Health Savings Account
- Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP) participation
- 401(k) with a generous employer match and Flexible PTO
