Defense is hiring a Senior C++ Software Engineer for the Edge Systems team based in Melbourne. This position suits an experienced software professional looking to design and build foundational software that drives intelligent, autonomous systems in challenging real-world scenarios.

Key Responsibilities

Design, write, review, test, and debug production software for edge computing platforms.
Provide technical leadership by shaping architecture and long-term technical direction across multiple teams and products.
Solve complex cross-cutting problems and establish engineering practices that enhance organizational effectiveness.
Focus individual contributions on the highest-risk and highest-leverage technical challenges within the company.
Work on sensor integration, imaging pipelines, calibration, diagnostics, deployment, and developer tooling.
Collaborate closely with systems, hardware, autonomy, artificial intelligence, product, and test engineers.

Requirements

Extensive professional experience in modern C++ software development.
Background building application and systems software for Linux-based edge compute platforms, including ARM64 and NVIDIA Jetson-class systems.
Experience dealing with imaging, sensor integration, mission systems, and edge computing environments.
