Senior Data Scientist - Generative AI
About this role
Data scientists who thrive on solving complex creative and search challenges while collaborating closely with product teams will find a strong fit within the AB InBev Growth Group. Operating out of Campinas, Brazil, the team unifies global tech and commercial functions to support well-known brands and digital products like BEES and Ze Delivery.
This senior team member will lead the generative AI platform, taking charge of prompt-driven solutions, diffusion-based creative pipelines, and retrieval-augmented generation architectures. Responsibilities include building production-grade systems that serve live traffic, defining technical direction, and mentoring peers on retrieval best practices.
What you will do
- Design, build, and productionize end-to-end generative AI systems ranging from prompt engineering to retrieval-augmented generation architectures.
- Manage the search and retrieval layer through embedding models, vector similarity search, and hybrid search techniques.
- Apply frontier techniques such as fine-tuning, in-context learning, and agentic workflows to solve creative and search problems.
- Utilize cloud and orchestration platforms like Azure, Databricks, and Spark to process large datasets and serve systems at scale.
- Program in Python using FastAPI and PySpark for data manipulation, embedding pipelines, and modeling.
- Implement offline evaluation, A/B testing, and quality monitoring workflows to streamline iteration.
- Collaborate with data engineers, platform engineers, and product managers to deliver production solutions using agile methodologies.
What you need
- Hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- Demonstrate relevant professional experience in data science or applied machine learning with a strong grasp of LLMs and multimodal generation.
- Bring hands-on experience building search and retrieval systems covering vector search, re-ranking, and performance evaluation.
- Show proficiency using LLM and embedding APIs such as OpenAI or Azure OpenAI.
- Possess practical experience with cloud environments like Azure and Databricks for big data processing and model serving.
- Exhibit strong programming skills in Python, PySpark, and API frameworks like FastAPI.
- Maintain familiarity with version control, CI/CD tools, and testing frameworks such as pytest and mypy.
