Role Overview

Reddit is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead ads fraud detection and scaled enforcement within its Safety organization. Working within this central Trust and Safety team, the professional will protect platform users and advertisers from harmful content, behaviors, and abuse. This high-impact position offers early leadership in a greenfield space, allowing the candidate to define strategies, build foundational capabilities, and shape cross-functional roadmaps alongside Ads Product, Engineering, Machine Learning, Operations, Policy, and Legal teams.

Key Responsibilities

Formulate the measurement and detection strategy for ads fraud by establishing fraud taxonomies, labels, sampling plans, metrics, and evaluation frameworks.
Investigate large and complex datasets to uncover emerging fraud patterns, determine root causes, and translate insights into detection and enforcement requirements.
Collaborate with Engineering and Machine Learning to design scalable detection and enforcement pipelines, covering feature generation, rules, models, and near-real-time scoring.
Manage the complete detection lifecycle, including backtesting, threshold calibration, offline and online evaluation, launch validation, and drift detection.
Construct and maintain statistical, machine learning, and GenAI-enabled models to enhance fraud detection, risk identification, and investigator efficiency.
Balance fraud loss, platform and advertiser risk, customer experience, and business objectives when proposing detection thresholds.
Communicate complex analytical findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leaders, while mentoring peers.

Requirements

Relevant experience in Data Science, Applied Science, or a related quantitative field, ideally focused on ads fraud, financial fraud, account risk, or platform integrity.
Master of Science degree with at least 4 years of industry data science experience, or a Ph.D. with at least 2 years of industry data science experience, in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or another quantitative discipline.
Hands-on experience building or shaping production detection and automated enforcement pipelines.
Solid command of fraud or abuse detection methods, precision and recall tradeoffs, calibration, and false-positive analysis.
Background in partnering with Product and Engineering to convert analyses and prototypes into production-ready systems.
Experience applying artificial intelligence and large language models to practical data science workflows.
Ability to solve ambiguously defined problems independently and move toward scalable solutions.

Salary and Benefits

The base salary range for this position is $190,800 to $267,100 USD. Additional compensation includes equity in the form of restricted stock units.
