Role Overview

As a Senior Data Scientist at Wayve in Sunnyvale, California USA, you will own the analytical layer that turns evaluation outputs into findings to improve driving models and measurement methods. Operating within a fast-moving weekly release cadence, you will work across simulation, on-road experiment data, and internal evaluation tooling to make release decisions more confident.

Key Responsibilities

Shape how the team learns from evaluation data by defining deeper analysis in practice and building supporting habits, tooling, and workflows.
Improve driving performance measurement by identifying blind spots, inconsistencies, and gaps in simulation and offline metrics.
Investigate on-road release-test findings, determine whether offline tests should have caught them, and improve evaluation coverage.
Perform experiment analysis and apply statistical methods to provide data-driven promotion recommendations for new driving models.
Expand the definition of good performance beyond intervention rates using behavioural and operational signals.
Partner with Data Science and Validation teams on how evaluation methods and ground truth are defined, implemented, and maintained.
Support partner-facing quality investigations by quantifying and tracking issues raised through OEM QA workflows.
Document findings and recommendations for action within a weekly release cadence to prevent recurring issues.

Requirements

Strong analytical and investigative skills to move from vague issues to clear, evidence-backed conclusions.
Hands-on experience working with machine learning evaluation data, driving-performance metrics, or complex test results at scale.
Experience applying statistical methods for A/B testing and experimentation, including confidence intervals, distributions, and sampling.
Proficiency in Python or SQL with comfort in querying and analysing large datasets.
Ability to operate with autonomy in a fast-moving environment, setting priorities and knowing when to solve directly versus escalating.
Clear written communication to turn messy investigations into concise, actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
Genuine curiosity about model behaviour and measurement accuracy.

Nice to Have

Experience in autonomous driving or robotics.
Background in safety-critical machine learning systems or simulation-based testing.
Familiarity with on-road experiment analysis or OEM and partner validation workflows.
Experience improving evaluation infrastructure and measurement methodology.
