Deal-makers who thrive at the intersection of law and business strategy while embracing an AI-first mindset will find a natural home on Deepgram's legal team. As the second commercial lawyer, the person stepping into this role will help build foundational legal frameworks from scratch for a platform underpinning the Voice AI economy. Reporting directly to the Associate General Counsel, the lawyer will close high-stakes enterprise agreements and steer commercial strategy as the company expands across the UK, EU, and APAC.
Operating in a fast-paced startup environment requires comfort with rapid change, constant learning, and active experimentation with advanced AI tools. Success in the role means acting as a pragmatic business partner to sales and development teams, designing scalable legal processes, and providing clear guidance on complex international data and intellectual property challenges.
What you will do
- Structure, negotiate, and close enterprise sales, strategic partnerships, vendor contracts, data licenses, and marketing agreements.
- Partner closely with sales and business development teams to accelerate deal velocity while maintaining customer empathy.
- Design and implement scalable legal processes, templates, and standardized terms to streamline contract execution.
- Deliver practical legal guidance concerning privacy, intellectual property, data security, and emerging artificial intelligence issues.
- Navigate cross-border commercial and regulatory frameworks across the UK, European Union, and APAC regions, including data transfer mechanisms.
- Translate evolving legal landscapes surrounding artificial intelligence technologies into actionable strategies for internal teams.
What you need
- Hold a JD, LLM, or equivalent law degree or qualification from an accredited institution.
- Bring between 5 and 12 years of relevant legal practice experience gained in-house, at a law firm, or through a combination of both.
- Demonstrate proven strength in negotiating international commercial transactions, specifically across enterprise deals and partnerships in the UK, EU, and APAC markets.
- Possess deep familiarity or a strong willingness to learn core issues involving intellectual property, privacy, data security, and data licensing.
- Show practical experience navigating relevant data protection regimes and structuring cross-border transfer mechanisms.
- Exhibit exceptional, precise, and plain-language writing abilities alongside comfort operating in ambiguous gray areas.
