Role Overview

The Senior Applied ML Algorithm Engineer manages algorithm development from initial data analysis and Python prototyping to efficient C/C++ implementation and firmware integration. Personnel in this position collaborate with Data Science, Firmware, and Hardware teams to satisfy strict memory, power, compute, and latency limitations on embedded hardware.

Key Responsibilities

Build algorithms merging signal processing, feature extraction, and machine learning to produce physiological insights from wearable sensors.
Examine large, noisy sensor datasets to train models, assess performance, and boost generalization across diverse users.
Convert Python prototypes and trained models into production-grade C/C++ code optimized for embedded firmware.
Coordinate with Firmware and Hardware groups to integrate algorithms, validate execution on target devices, and fix performance disparities.
Establish performance metrics and validation frameworks using offline evaluation, lab experiments, and on-device testing.
Work alongside cross-functional partners to turn research into production features and troubleshoot post-launch performance issues.

Requirements

Five or more years of professional background creating signal processing and machine learning algorithms for time-series or sensor data.
Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
Knowledge of digital and statistical signal processing for noisy time-series data.
Competence in Python for data analysis alongside C/C++ for embedded firmware implementation.
Background building, training, and evaluating machine learning models using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
Demonstrated ability deploying machine learning models to resource-constrained embedded systems while balancing power, memory, and latency.
Capability to independently investigate algorithmic problems and communicate technical tradeoffs.
Readiness to utilize AI tools in daily duties while maintaining high quality standards.
