Role Overview

Baseten is seeking a proactive Security Engineer to join the team as one of the first dedicated security hires. The person in this position will work alongside engineering and operations groups to guarantee high standards of data availability, confidentiality, and integrity. This role offers the chance to design foundational security strategies and best practices for a rapidly growing platform that powers inference for advanced artificial intelligence companies.

Key Responsibilities

Partner with engineering groups to design secure systems across cloud environments like AWS and GCP alongside container orchestration platforms.
Lead vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and remediation tasks to protect products and infrastructure.
Build and maintain incident response procedures covering detection, containment, analysis, and post-incident reviews.
Manage identity and access management strategies and tools to control system and data access.
Collaborate with operations to achieve compliance with standards such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR, assisting with audits and risk assessments.
Create employee training programs and documentation focused on secure coding standards, social engineering threats, and best practices.
Integrate security practices into the CI/CD pipeline alongside DevOps teams by automating checks and embedding security as code.

Requirements

Three or more years of professional experience working as a Security Engineer or in a closely related security function, ideally within a fast-paced startup setting.
In-depth understanding of cloud security across AWS and GCP, container security, and infrastructure-as-code principles.
Practical background utilizing security tools including vulnerability scanners, SIEM, and IDS/IPS, as well as scripting languages for automation.
Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks like SOC 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR with the ability to turn requirements into functional controls.
Direct expertise handling incident response, forensic analysis, and root cause investigations.
Strong communication abilities to work cross-functionally and foster a security-first environment.
