About this role

The Revenue Accounting Manager position at Baseten is a hands-on, full-time individual contributor role based in San Francisco, offering remote flexibility for professionals with strong revenue accounting expertise. This opportunity suits an experienced accountant looking to take full ownership of the quote-to-cash function, billing operations, and revenue recognition within a rapidly growing AI infrastructure company.

Role Overview

Baseten is seeking a Revenue Accounting Manager to oversee billing, contract review, and revenue recognition as the business scales. As deal structures grow increasingly complex with usage-based pricing, committed capacity, credits, and multi-year enterprise contracts, this role ensures every transaction is structured, billed, and recognized accurately from day one. Working closely with FP&A, Sales, Legal, and Revenue Operations, the incumbent will tighten contract review processes, close procedures, and reporting rigor following the organization's first year-end audit.

Key Responsibilities

Own revenue recognition under ASC 606 across diverse contract types, such as usage-based models, committed capacity deals, credits, and multi-year agreements.
Serve as the primary advisor on revenue recognition treatment for innovative deal structures, new products, and evolving pricing models.
Direct end-to-end billing operations, covering invoice generation, accuracy checks, dispute resolution, and workflow automation.
Strengthen collection efforts and establish a standardized contract review process with Sales and Legal to identify non-standard terms before deal closure.
Manage the sales and indirect tax process, including tax automation tools, nexus tracking, exemption certificates, and filings across new jurisdictions.
Drive the revenue-related monthly close, including deferred revenue rollforward, unbilled accounts receivable, credit memos, and revenue reserves.
Partner with FP&A to reconcile billed versus recognized revenue while supporting annual recurring revenue reporting, forecasting, and audit deliverables.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, featuring at least 3 years dedicated specifically to revenue accounting and recognition.
Comprehensive working knowledge of ASC 606 standards, encompassing variable consideration, multiple performance obligations, and usage-based revenue models.
Direct, hands-on experience reviewing and abstracting commercial contracts for proper accounting treatment.
Demonstrated background in managing billing operations directly rather than merely reviewing output from a separate billing team.
Prior experience in a public company or an audit-ready private company environment, gained through Big 4 or industry roles with audit exposure.
Strong builder mentality with a bias for execution and comfort operating within a lean team relative to overall company scale.
Proficiency with NetSuite or comparable enterprise resource planning software alongside modern billing platforms.
Based in San Francisco or New York, with the ability to work in person at least three days per week.

Nice to Have

Background at a high-growth, venture-backed infrastructure or cloud computing enterprise utilizing usage-based or hybrid pricing.
Familiarity with committed-use and capacity contracts.
Experience overseeing sales and indirect tax compliance utilizing automated tax tools across multiple jurisdictions.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
Exposure to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls within a revenue cycle framework.
