Role Overview

Deepgram is hiring a remote Research Staff member to tackle difficult data problems and explore audio research frontiers. The professional in this role will design an industrial data factory to support advanced speech-to-text and text-to-speech systems, working alongside product, engineering, and data teams.

Key Responsibilities

Direct high performance data acquisition, synthesis, and preparation pipelines to supply training data for upcoming speech and language AI foundation models.
Create sophisticated characterizations of complex conversational audio by applying deep learning models and signal processing techniques.
Partner with Engineering and DataOps to design automated systems that expand human annotators' capabilities to label valuable data and supply feedback.
Construct advanced benchmarking methods and curated datasets to evaluate conversational voice platforms.
Document and share experimental outcomes and data analysis with internal and external groups.

Requirements

Demonstrated history of building data processing pipelines from scratch and managing the complete data stack, encompassing acquisition, cleaning, characterization, serving, and transformation.
Practical expertise applying statistical methods and deep learning models to analyze intricate data.
Effective communication abilities to explain complex technical ideas clearly to varying audiences.
Solid software engineering capabilities focused on writing clean, modular Python code and utilizing PyTorch.

Nice to Have

Academic or professional background in Physics, Language Processing, or Mechanical Engineering.
Direct experience constructing machine learning models.
Prior background working with speech and audio technologies.
