About this role

The Project Controls Manager position at Crusoe in Brighton, Colorado, is a full-time role dedicated to overseeing cost and schedule integrity for Engineered to Order manufacturing programs. This opportunity suits an analytical professional with a background in cost engineering or manufacturing finance who wants to build the analytical backbone of the project management office.

Role Overview

As the Project Controls Manager, the individual takes ownership of cost and schedule baselines across multiple manufacturing sectors, including Spark MDC, PDC buildings, and switchgear lines. This role does not run projects directly, but rather empowers project managers and operations leaders to execute them with greater accuracy. Responsibilities include managing the estimate-to-baseline handoff, cost-to-complete reporting, and monthly program economics reviews.

Key Responsibilities

Establish and maintain PMO-wide standards for cost and schedule baselining, incorporating a common WBS and cost code structure.
Define and audit the baseline change control standard to track revisions and preserve original commitments.
Validate awarded scope, quoted hours, material costs, and margin assumptions prior to program kickoff.
Build and maintain cost-to-complete and estimate-at-completion tooling for project managers.
Own the monthly program economics review, validating models and challenging operational assumptions.
Write, version, and train team members on standard operating procedures and review tooling.
Maintain the data pipeline behind sector executive dashboards, ensuring source-of-truth queries and automated refreshes.
Ensure cost data hygiene by auditing ERP systems for cost code discipline, WIP accuracy, and BOM-to-job-cost alignment.
Track portfolio contingency and risk allowances against known exposures to provide leadership with defensible forecasts.
Onboard and train project managers on controls toolsets and reporting standards.
Partner with Finance and Accounting on revenue recognition, WIP valuation, and variance explanations, while providing Estimating with actualized cost feedback.
Lead financial and schedule post-mortem analyses at project close-out to inform future operations.

Requirements

Minimum of 6+ years of professional experience in project controls, cost engineering, or manufacturing finance within an ETO or make-to-order production environment.
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Accounting, or a closely related quantitative field.
Demonstrated ownership of cost baselines, earned value or equivalent progress measurement, and estimate-at-completion forecasting.
Advanced modeling capability using Google Sheets for dynamic cost structures, sensitivity analysis, and large-scale data reconciliation.
Hands-on ERP experience for job costing, work orders, and BOM-level cost roll-up, alongside proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
Strong scheduling literacy across tools such as Smartsheet, MS Project, Monday.com, or Primavera P6 with the capability to audit and correct schedule logic.
Proven ability to influence project managers and operations leaders without direct authority.
Ability to participate in required drug and alcohol programs due to the safety-sensitive designation of the position and facility.
