Role Overview

Baseten is scaling its product function and seeks a foundational Product Manager to define developer experience standards. Working directly with founders and top-tier infrastructure engineers, this role involves owning the entire developer journey from local setup to production deployment. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical instinct, collaborates closely with engineering teams, and focuses heavily on customer needs to make model deployment effortless.

Key Responsibilities

Reduce the time required for a developer to move from initial sign-up to a fully maintained production deployment.
Unify authoring surfaces including the CLI, SDKs, console, Truss, config files, and chains into a coherent developer path.
Create an effortless onboarding, model discovery, and first-deploy experience with clear error handling and build progress visibility.
Manage the deployment lifecycle to ensure safe shipping, covering environment promotion, version history, artifact and model registries, and progressive delivery controls like canary and shadow deployments.
Shape developer workflows for multi-model applications through Chains and agent-driven development.
Expand self-serve capabilities by engaging directly with customers and converting operational friction into product roadmap initiatives.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of experience building developer-facing or technical products as a product manager or product-minded engineer.
Practical engineering background building developer tools such as SDKs, CLIs, APIs, or platform surfaces.
Demonstrated history of shipped developer tools and products with a portfolio of success.
Deep appreciation for developer experience across local command line interfaces and user interfaces.
Clear perspectives on CLI, API-first, and agent-first design.
Technical depth capable of earning the trust of systems and infrastructure engineers.
Rigorous customer research habits paired with a fast-shipping mindset.

Nice to Have

Background in machine learning infrastructure, developer tools, or API products.
Personal experience deploying and serving machine learning models.
