The Procurement Lead at Baseten is a foundational role based in San Francisco, offering remote flexibility for professionals with eight or more years of experience. This position suits an experienced procurement expert who wants to build a brand-new purchasing function from the ground up for a rapidly growing organization powering artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement the first company-wide procurement processes, approval routing, workflows, and tailored policies.
Build procurement workflows within the existing procure-to-pay platform to manage requisitions, approvals, and purchase orders.
Own vendor onboarding, due diligence, and risk assessment while leading strategic sourcing, RFPs, and contract negotiations.
Establish vendor management frameworks covering performance, risk tracking, and upcoming renewals.
Partner closely with Legal, Security, Compliance, IT, and internal business stakeholders to streamline purchasing needs.
Establish essential procurement controls that support audit readiness, security requirements, and future maturity.

Requirements

Eight or more years of progressive procurement experience, including building or scaling the function at a high-growth technology company.
Proven background in designing procurement processes, policies, and systems from scratch.
Practical history running RFPs, vendor selection, strategic sourcing, and contract negotiations across various categories.
Experience working alongside Security, Compliance, and Legal teams on vendor risk assessments.
High comfort level operating with ambiguity and establishing structured processes where none currently exist.
Strong interpersonal and partnership capabilities, with the ability to act as a trusted advisor rather than a bottleneck.
Based in San Francisco or New York, with the ability to work in-person three or more days per week.

Nice to Have

Experience utilizing modern procurement and spend management platforms featuring AI-enabled tools.
Background operating successfully inside a fast-growing business environment.
Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley controls and audit compliance guidelines related to purchasing.
