Suno is building a creative entertainment platform designed to bring the joy of music making to a global audience. The engineering team is developing advanced audio tools used by everyone from casual hobbyists to award-winning artists.
The privacy engineering lead will establish the company's privacy and AI governance function from the ground up. This person will design the technical infrastructure governing data handling across platforms, models, and agents while collaborating closely with legal and product teams. Responsibilities include managing user rights operations, mapping permissions, and recruiting a dedicated engineering group to scale these practices.
Candidates should possess a strong background in software engineering paired with hands-on privacy or data governance expertise. The position suits a technical leader capable of building enforcement mechanisms directly while scaling a new functional team.
What you will do
- Establish the foundational policies for managing data, AI usage, and permitted actions alongside legal counsel.
- Manage data discovery, classification, and permissions mapping across product, analytics, and vendor systems.
- Implement and operate governance controls that enforce consent, access, and data-sharing rules throughout models and agents.
- Oversee verified user rights operations including access, correction, deletion, and consent management.
- Recruit and mentor a dedicated privacy engineering team to provide focused ownership and scalability.
- Integrate responsible data handling practices into the development of every new model and feature.
What you need
- Bring 8 to 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience with sufficient technical depth to build enforcement infrastructure.
- Demonstrate deep experience in privacy engineering or data governance along with working familiarity with GDPR and CCPA.
- Possess background as an engineering manager maintaining technical depth or as a Staff-level engineer ready to transition into people management.
- Show capability to build and ship enforcement infrastructure independently rather than strictly defining policy for others.
Nice to have
- Experience with AI/ML governance, model evaluation pipelines, or generative AI systems
- Background at a consumer tech company at scale or one with a significant European user base
- Prior experience as an early or founding privacy/governance hire at a growing company
