Role Overview

The Principal Data Engineer role at Axonius serves as a central technical authority for the data engineering group. Operating remotely within the United States, this position focuses on designing secure enterprise data platforms, streaming frameworks, and autonomous AI agents using Agile methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

Formulate and execute the technical architecture strategy for global ETL and ELT pipelines, streaming frameworks such as AWS Kafka, and Terraform infrastructure-as-code deployments.
Establish development standards, code review practices, and evaluation criteria as the principal technical authority for the data engineering work group.
Architect, deploy, and maintain autonomous AI agents utilizing large language models like Claude and Gemini for automated insights.
Assess high-risk architectural challenges independently across multiple operational domains, making definitive decisions on data warehousing design and schema drift mitigation.
Partner with IT, Security, and Product infrastructure teams on governance, data asset correlation, and the enforcement of role-based access control and PII data masking standards.
Implement automated data pipeline monitoring, alerting, and cleansing mechanisms at the ingestion tier.
Collaborate with Analytics Engineering to ensure the stability, scalability, and performance of production repositories feeding the enterprise semantic layer.

Requirements

Minimum of 10 years of experience in data engineering, cloud data architecture, or specialized infrastructure roles with technical leadership experience.
Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python for pipeline automation, data scripting, and AI agent orchestration frameworks.
Experience designing, provisioning, and tuning production-grade cloud environments using Terraform.
Background in independently architecting real-time streaming topologies, high-volume event data ingestions, and custom API-driven connector frameworks.

Nice to Have

Experience delivering data infrastructure iteratively using Agile management tools like Jira.
Hands-on expertise architecting, optimizing, and managing multi-cluster enterprise data warehouses in Snowflake.
Background managing cross-functional technical data requirements across GTM, Finance, Product, CX, Legal, and People divisions.
Experience designing data platform solutions optimized for machine learning training pipelines, vector databases, and operational AI consumption.
Experience creating methods and governance frameworks to automate data cleansing, quality monitoring, and system resilience.
Experience deploying and managing multi-region cloud data infrastructure architectures within AWS enterprise environments.
