About this role

The Perception and Fusion Engineer position at Swarm Aero is a full-time remote role focused on building algorithms for large drone swarms and suits engineers with strong expertise in sensor fusion and target tracking. The team builds swarming UAV systems and associated command and control software.

Role Overview

This position focuses on developing detection, tracking, and estimation algorithms for aerial platforms. Personnel in this function enable autonomous assets to maintain a shared tactical environment picture.

Key Responsibilities

Build, evaluate, and refine automatic target recognition and track management architectures utilizing neural networks.
Implement multi-sensor fusion and state estimation methods like Kalman filters and particle filters for resource-limited vehicles.
Construct distributed fusion techniques to merge individual tracking data across multiple swarm units into a unified tactical view.
Evaluate algorithm effectiveness through testing against simulation environments and actual flight data.
Streamline models and estimation tools for live inference performance on edge processing hardware.
Produce organized, sustainable, and performant source code.
Participate in travel up to one-quarter of the schedule for integration and testing activities.

Requirements

Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Proven knowledge in estimation principles and multi-target tracking methods including Kalman filters, particle filters, joint probabilistic data association, or multi-hypothesis tracking.
Practical background in deep learning encompassing neural network training, assessment, and implementation for detection or classification tasks.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Rust, Go, or Python.
History of transitioning algorithms from theoretical research onto operational hardware.

Nice to Have

Published research or applied implementations involving automatic target recognition, multi-sensor fusion, or decentralized estimation.
Background handling electro-optical, infrared, radar, or radio frequency sensor inputs on flying vehicles.
