XDOF is hiring a full-time Member of Technical Staff for System Integration in San Mateo on a hybrid schedule. This position suits an experienced software engineer who wants to independently manage end-to-end embodied AI implementations on robotic hardware.
Role Overview
XDOF is seeking a full-stack engineer to build out foundation model infrastructure by handling everything from sensors and hardware to data pipelines and algorithm deployment. The role involves managing data collection systems, data warehouses, and software toolchains for partner organizations in the robotics field.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and update the embodied AI data collection architecture, including multimodal sensor synchronization, pipelines, storage, and annotation toolchains.
Handle integration, calibration, and maintenance for robotic arms and camera hardware like RealSense, ZED, and industrial cameras to ensure stable operations.
Direct the complete deployment lifecycle for teleoperation, imitation learning, and DAgger algorithms, covering data gathering, training, inference, and tuning.
Implement data quality controls focused on timestamp synchronization, coordinate frame alignment, anomaly detection, and rapid troubleshooting.
Build and manage robot software interfaces and communication protocols using ROS2 and DDS to support cross-platform station replication.
Provide on-site support for data collection and algorithm deployment, write technical documentation, and optimize system efficiency.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Automation, Robotics, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
Programming proficiency in Python and C++ with experience in Linux system development and debugging.
Expertise in ROS and ROS2 principles, including Launch systems, parameter management, and node communication via Topics, Services, and Actions.
Practical experience with camera calibration and integration, including multi-camera synchronization and RGB-D or stereo devices like ZED and RealSense.
Familiarity with robotic arm control interfaces such as UR, Franka, xArm, or custom arms, encompassing driver layers, kinematics, and APIs.
Knowledge of hardware interfaces including CAN, EtherCAT, RS485, and USB, alongside sensors like IMU, depth cameras, and force-torque sensors.
Background in deep learning model training and deployment using PyTorch across the entire workflow from preparation to inference.
Demonstrated capability in using AI coding tools such as Cursor and Claude Code to increase engineering productivity.
Nice to Have
Project background in embodied AI and imitation learning data collection and algorithm deployment.
Knowledge of mainstream imitation learning algorithms including VLA, ACT, and Diffusion Policy.
Understanding of robot data formats like LeRobot datasets, HDF5, ROS bags, and SVO2.
Familiarity with multi-device synchronization methods like PTP time synchronization and hardware triggers.
Experience working with motion capture gloves, OptiTrack, and VIVE Trackers.
Background in video codecs such as Jetson hardware codecs, H.264, and H.265.
Ability to read research papers and technical documentation in written English.
