Role Overview

TypeSafe AI seeks an Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, and run the global infrastructure supporting its innovative machine-native intelligence platform. Based out of the San Francisco office near Embarcadero station, this full-time role involves managing systems that serve users across multiple regions and clouds. The professional joining the team will handle everything from multi-region container orchestration to optimizing low-latency networking for large-scale language model inference workloads.

Key Responsibilities

Design, deploy, and manage production Kubernetes clusters spanning multiple regions and cloud providers.

Build and maintain the technical foundation that powers global artificial intelligence inference workloads.

Handle all networking responsibilities, such as VPCs, DNS, peering, load balancing, service meshes, and CNI.

Oversee GPU infrastructure provisioning and configure autoscaling specifically for machine learning workloads.

Create and update infrastructure as code using Python and Pulumi.

Implement and enhance observability tools covering logging, tracing, alerting, and monitoring.

Requirements

Extensive production experience managing Kubernetes at scale, including storage, networking, scheduling, and cluster upgrades.

Demonstrated professional background working with Amazon Web Services.

Practical experience utilizing infrastructure as code tools like Terraform, Pulumi, or comparable solutions.

Strong knowledge of Linux networking principles.

A proven history working on high-traffic production machine learning systems.

Programming proficiency, with a strong preference for Python.

Nice to Have

Background in operating large-scale language model or machine learning inference infrastructure, including model serving, GPU scheduling, vLLM, KubeRay, and Kubernetes-native tools.

Deep understanding of Kubernetes networking using service meshes like Istio and Envoy, or CNI plugins such as Cilium.

Experience deploying and managing multi-cloud environments.

Site reliability engineering background encompassing capacity planning, SLOs, and incident response.
