About this role

Phylo is seeking a Member of Technical Staff for Infrastructure to join its hybrid team in Toronto. This role focuses on scaling deployment foundations for enterprise AI platforms and is well-suited for engineers with a strong background in cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes.

Role Overview

Phylo is looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to build, operate, and scale the deployment foundations for its enterprise AI platform. The position centers on cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, secure single-tenant deployments, observability, networking, storage, and operational workflows. Candidates will help deploy the agentic AI platform into enterprise pharma, biotech, and research environments where security, reliability, and data isolation are paramount. Collaboration with engineering, machine learning, science, and customer-facing teams is a core component of daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate infrastructure for enterprise deployments, covering single-tenant and customer-hosted environments.
Construct deployment systems for cloud-native and enterprise settings, owning Kubernetes-based infrastructure for services, sandboxed agent execution, compute workloads, storage mounts, networking, and observability.
Support infrastructure for scientific and computational workloads, which includes HPC-adjacent workflows, bioinformatics tools, batch execution, GPU and CPU compute, and large-scale data movement.
Collaborate with customer-facing teams to assist with enterprise deployment planning, debugging, reliability reviews, and production operations.
Shape the long-term architecture for deploying the platform into pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic, and research environments.

Requirements

At least 2 years of professional industry experience in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, cloud engineering, or a related discipline.
Solid hands-on production experience utilizing Kubernetes.
Proven background in deploying and operating systems across major cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Practical familiarity with infrastructure-as-code utilities including Terraform, Pulumi, or CDK.
Deep grasp of networking, IAM, VPCs, load balancers, DNS, certificates, secrets management, and fundamental cloud security.
Background in creating CI/CD pipelines, automating deployments, provisioning environments, and building operational tools.

Nice to Have

Practical background deploying enterprise SaaS into single-tenant, customer-hosted, VPC-isolated, or regulated sectors.
History of building or managing research and development infrastructure within pharma, biotech, academia, or the life sciences.
Familiarity with high-performance computing, bioinformatics infrastructure, scientific computing, workflow engines, or batch schedulers.
Experience working with platforms and tools like Nextflow, Snakemake, Cromwell, Slurm, AWS Batch, EKS, ECS, FSx, Lustre, S3, or distributed filesystems.
Background in secure sandboxing or isolated execution technologies such as gVisor, Kata Containers, Firecracker, or Kubernetes sandboxing.
Exposure to supporting GPU-enabled workloads, massive data processing, or scientific compute clusters.
Knowledge of enterprise identity management, SSO, audit logging, compliance controls, private connectivity, or data residency protocols.
Direct engagement with enterprise customers during onboarding, deployment, troubleshooting, or production support.
