About this role

Managing the construction-in-progress ledger and coordinating project setups, this role owns the accounting lifecycle for capital costs from initial project creation through to final asset capitalization. Daily responsibilities involve configuring project hierarchies, managing monthly open purchase order and construction accruals, and partnering with operations to determine when builds are ready for their intended use.

The accounting team operates in a hands-on environment where members run the monthly close while simultaneously building and refining internal processes. Collaboration with construction, leasing, and finance departments is essential for maintaining accurate cost-to-complete forecasts and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.

Candidates who succeed here typically possess a strong background in capital or construction accounting and thrive in fast-paced settings characterized by high growth and occasional ambiguity. Someone who enjoys owning processes from end to end and values cross-functional communication will find a natural fit within this group.

What you will do

  • Manage the setup of project hierarchies and structures to ensure capital costs land against the correct project, phase, building, and data hall.
  • Maintain the construction-in-progress ledger by capturing and accumulating materials, contractor fees, and other capital expenses.
  • Execute the monthly open purchase order and construction accrual process, including reconciling committed and incurred costs against budgets.
  • Determine when assets are ready for their intended use and trigger timely capitalization from construction-in-progress into the fixed asset register.
  • Collaborate closely with construction, operations, and finance teams to validate asset readiness and support accurate in-service dates.
  • Maintain process documentation and internal controls to meet Sarbanes-Oxley 404 requirements while facilitating internal and external audits.

What you need

  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with a strong background in capital, construction, or fixed asset accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience owning a complete month-end close process and meeting strict deadlines consistently.
  • Working knowledge of accounting practices for capital projects, including cost capitalization, accruals, and asset transfers.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and SOX compliance with proven experience managing control documentation.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functional with non-accounting teams such as construction and operations.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Valid work authorization that does not require company sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Capital or construction accounting background in data centers or comparable capital-intensive infrastructure
  • Familiarity with capitalized interest and capitalized labor concepts in a construction program
  • Big 4 public accounting experience
  • CPA or CMA designation
  • Experience working with AI tools
