About this role
The Tripadvisor Group Machine Learning Team builds systems that influence the travel decisions of millions of people per day and supports global marketing efforts across various channels. Working within a diverse multidisciplinary environment, the incoming scientist applies modeling skills to problem spaces like online advertising bidding, customer modeling, experimental design, revenue optimization, attribution, recommendations, and lifetime value. Team members gain access to new development tools and huge datasets to prototype, evaluate, deploy, and maintain machine learning solutions in production.
This role exists to drive business growth through applied data science, utilizing the newest technologies while observing real-time impacts on online advertising and traveler engagement. The ideal candidate is an independent, curious, and motivated professional who enjoys discussing ideas, takes ownership of projects, and actively seeks out new opportunities for machine learning integration.
What you will do
- Apply machine learning models to solve core business challenges across various marketing channels.
- Identify new opportunities to implement data science techniques throughout paid, organic, search, demand creation, affiliate, and CRM marketing spaces.
- Build and automate ETL pipelines for ongoing data processing.
- Handle the complete lifecycle of new machine learning models from initial prototyping to production deployment and maintenance.
- Design rigorous A/B tests and thoroughly analyze experimental results.
- Discover novel methodologies for data analysis and interpretation.
- Communicate project progress and the interpretation of experimental outcomes to both technical and business stakeholders.
What you need
- Hold a PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related quantitative field, or possess a Master's degree alongside at least two years of practical experience.
- Demonstrate a strong background in machine learning, statistics, data structures, and algorithms.
- Show proficiency in Python for numerical and statistical programming utilizing libraries like NumPy, Pandas, and Scikit-learn.
- Demonstrate the ability to interpret and write complex SQL queries.
- Possess hands-on experience working with big data technologies such as Hive and Spark.
- Provide a proven track record of leading the deployment and maintenance of production models.
- Bring practical experience with AI-powered tools alongside strong communication skills for collaborating with technical and non-technical partners.
