Role Overview

The role involves guiding a high-impact team to expand high-quality content discovery while balancing infrastructure costs and operational reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Shape the technical vision and long-term roadmap for Feed Retrieval, connecting recommender system investments to business goals.
Translate broader relevance objectives into a focused team roadmap, handling tradeoffs across model quality, inventory expansion, and system reliability.
Coach and mentor team members to support professional growth and enhance overall impact.
Supervise the architecture, creation, and optimization of retrieval systems that provide relevant, diverse, and high-quality content candidates.
Establish robust measurement, experimentation, and debugging protocols to track retrieval quality and downstream effects.
Coordinate closely with ML platform, infrastructure, ranking, safety, and product groups to deliver low-latency retrieval systems.
Partner with the recruiting team to interview, attract, and hire diverse engineering talent.

Requirements

At least 2 years of professional experience building and guiding high-performing machine learning or recommender-system teams.
Hands-on expertise with large-scale production machine learning systems, including recommender systems, retrieval models, embedding-based systems, sequence models, transformer architectures, or LLM-powered applications.
Strong comprehension of recommender systems, covering candidate retrieval, indexing systems, ranking handoffs, and feed personalization.
Ability to establish clear technical strategies amidst ambiguous problem spaces while balancing user relevance and business scale.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
