Role Overview

Reddit is looking for a Machine Learning Manager for Feed Ecosystems to oversee a high-impact team dedicated to building recommendation systems that drive sustainable growth across communities, posts, and users. The person in this role will enhance relevance for logged-out, new, and low-signal users, help new communities and posts connect with suitable audiences, and craft machine learning systems that balance discovery, personalization, and ecosystem quality. This position suits a strategic thinker passionate about deploying responsible AI systems at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Formulate the technical vision and long-term roadmap for Feed Ecosystems, connecting recommender-system investments with company goals for user growth, community health, and discovery.
Coach and mentor team members, identifying avenues to develop their skills and professional impact.
Partner cross-functionally with product, design, data science, safety, community, ads, and platform groups to align on objectives and communicate project progress.
Oversee the design, optimization, and development of machine learning systems focused on cold-start relevance, feed quality, and community distribution.
Define and operationalize objective and subjective quality signals to optimize for user value alongside engagement.
Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to construct scalable, AI-powered distribution systems.
Maintain high standards for operational excellence, reliability, efficiency, and responsible AI practices.
Partner with the recruiting team to interview, attract, and hire talented machine learning engineers.

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience building and managing high-performing machine learning or recommender-systems teams.
Hands-on expertise with large-scale production machine learning systems, including personalization, cold-start modeling, recommender systems, content understanding, or LLM-powered applications.
Strong comprehension of recommender systems, encompassing candidate retrieval, value modeling, ranking, ecosystem dynamics, and measurement.
Ability to craft and share a compelling technical strategy across complex problem spaces.
Passion for designing scalable and responsible AI systems that boost user value and support sustainable content ecosystems.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and build cross-functional relationships.

Base salary range of $253,300 to $354,600 USD.
