Role Overview

As a Machine Learning Engineer at Bumble, you will develop and improve the machine learning systems that power member connections. You will take charge of well-defined machine learning problems from end to end. Responsibilities span data exploration, model creation, experimentation, production deployment, and monitoring. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and data partners to turn product goals into practical machine learning solutions while applying responsible AI principles.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver modern machine learning solutions that enhance matching, recommendations, and personalization across Bumble.
Manage defined machine learning problems from start to finish, including feature engineering, model training, evaluation, and production deployment.
Design and optimize models using frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow for production environments.
Conduct experimentation, such as A/B testing and offline evaluation, to continuously refine model performance.
Build, maintain, and monitor production models to guarantee reliability and performance at scale.
Write clean, maintainable code, participate in code reviews, and promote engineering best practices.
Apply responsible AI methods that prioritize fairness, transparency, privacy, and member safety.

Requirements

Around 3+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying machine learning models in production environments.
Strong proficiency in Python alongside experience with an ML framework such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Industry background in applying or researching machine learning within areas like recommendation systems, ranking, retrieval, search, or personalization.
Solid comprehension of the machine learning lifecycle, covering data development, training, monitoring, and iteration.
Familiarity with MLOps infrastructure concepts, including CI/CD for machine learning, feature stores, model serving, and observability.
Knowledge of cloud-native environments and containerization tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and GCP.
Experience with experimentation methodologies such as A/B testing and performance metrics.

Nice to Have

Practical background in building production-grade recommendation, ranking, retrieval, search, or personalization systems.
Experience utilizing modern recommendation approaches like embeddings, two-tower models, learning-to-rank, or representation learning.
Exposure to advanced architectures including transformers, graph neural networks, contrastive learning, or multimodal embeddings.
Experience working with real-time or low-latency machine learning inference systems at large scale.
