About this role

Wayve is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer, Synthetic Data in London, United Kingdom, to build and scale generative world models for autonomous driving. This role suits an applied machine learning professional who wants to bridge machine learning research and engineering to accelerate vehicle autonomy.

Role Overview

Wayve builds embodied intelligence to move real vehicles safely. The simulation team advances end-to-end autonomous driving research by incubating generative world models and synthetic data capabilities. This position focuses on building, scaling, and optimising world model architectures like GAIA and integrating them into generation and training infrastructure. The professional in this role will post-train world models for new vehicle embodiments, generate multimodal synthetic experiences at scale, and feed that data into downstream driving model training stacks. Operating between machine learning research and engineering, this position shapes how rapidly driving models are trained, evaluated, and deployed.

Key Responsibilities

Post-train and iterate GAIA-class world models for rig transfer, pose transfer, and related camera or vehicle conditioning.
Manage the large-scale generation loop from configuration and multi-GPU inference to training-ready artefacts.
Integrate synthetic data into driving model training via binarisation, mix ratios, quality filters, and impact experiments.
Diagnose and resolve geometry, calibration, and controllability failures in generated video.
Improve generation throughput, yield, and inference optimisations including shortcut, distillation, KV cache, and step count.
Expand safety-critical scenario coverage to new vehicle platforms and Emergency Lane Keeping or Automatic Emergency Braking sets.
Partner with researchers, infrastructure teams, and driving model owners to keep generation, evaluation, and training unified.

Requirements

Four or more years of experience in applied machine learning or research engineering with a track record of training and shipping neural networks.
Strong proficiency in Python and PyTorch or equivalent, with comfort in GPU training and debugging.
Hands-on experience with video, generative, or world models such as diffusion, flow-matching, autoregressive video, or neural rendering.
Working knowledge of cameras and three-dimensional geometry, including multi-camera rigs, intrinsics, extrinsics, and reprojection.
Evidence of taking generated or simulated data into a downstream model and measuring performance impact.
Ability to operate generation or training at scale using multi-GPU jobs and workflow orchestration.
