About this role

May Mobility is hiring a remote Lead ML Engineer - Mapping to architect the next generation of spatial intelligence and autonomous navigation systems. This role is ideal for an experienced machine learning professional with a background in computer vision, robotics, or autonomous driving seeking to shape large-scale transportation technology.

Role Overview

The Autonomy Mapping & Localization group at May Mobility seeks a Lead ML Engineer to design a robust spatial intelligence foundation for autonomous vehicles operating in diverse environments. In this position, the engineer will build production-grade semantic and topological mapping solutions that allow vehicles to understand complex roadways. The candidate will guide technical roadmaps, mentor engineers, and collaborate across departments to deploy scalable machine learning architectures.

Key Responsibilities

Architect, design, and implement a production-grade lane and route network mapping stack with high-performance integration into the broader autonomy system.
Lead the research, design, training, and validation of advanced neural networks for object detection, segmentation, tracking, depth estimation, and 3D reconstruction.
Own the end-to-end data strategy by defining data curation, synthetic data pipelines, auto-labeling, and active learning frameworks.
Develop robust evaluation metrics for lane and route network accuracy, temporal consistency, and scaling across various Operational Design Domains.
Collaborate with machine learning and autonomy teams to ensure seamless feature deployment and validation for the vehicle fleet.
Evaluate and integrate cutting-edge techniques, such as online vectorized HD map construction and vision/fusion foundation models.

Requirements

Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
Minimum of 7 years of industry experience developing and deploying machine learning or deep learning models for mapping or computer vision at scale.
Deep expertise in computer vision foundations, lane-level topology, vectorized mapping networks, BEV-based scene representation, and HD maps geometry.
Proficiency in PyTorch or TensorFlow for distributed training, synthetic data generation, and large-scale dataset handling.
Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++ with modular software design experience in Linux environments.
Proven leadership capabilities in guiding technical direction, mentoring engineers, and improving system reliability.

Nice to Have

10+ years of experience working in machine learning or deep learning for autonomous driving or ADAS systems.
Experience with feature extraction from street-level and overhead imagery.
Familiarity with Vision-Language Models and foundation models for auto-labeling and edge-case detection.
Expertise in machine learning optimization for real-time products with limited compute, including model quantization and pruning.
A record of publications or inventions at top-tier conferences like CVPR, NeurIPS, ICCV, ECCV, or ICLR.
