Role Overview

BJAK is hiring a Lead Engineer for an AI payments app to take technical ownership of complex systems and raise the engineering bar. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring architecture design, code writing, and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Lead technical design and execution for major products, features, and engineering initiatives.
Design scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems covering backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
Maintain hands-on involvement through coding, prototyping, code reviews, debugging, and production problem-solving.
Make architectural decisions balancing speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Transform ambiguous product challenges into clear engineering solutions and execution plans.
Establish high standards for code quality, system design, testing, security, observability, and reliability.
Review technical designs and code from peers while providing actionable feedback.
Mentor engineering staff to strengthen overall team capability.
Identify technical risks, bottlenecks, and architectural weaknesses early.
Collaborate with engineering, product, design, and AI teams to deliver high-quality products rapidly.
Enhance engineering tooling, development practices, and automation for greater team velocity.
Manage systems post-release by monitoring production, investigating incidents, and resolving root causes.

Requirements

Strong software engineering background with extensive experience building and launching production systems.
Deep technical expertise in areas such as backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
Demonstrated system design and architecture skills for complex or high-scale systems.
Strong programming proficiency and willingness to remain hands-on.
Proven experience leading major engineering projects or offering technical leadership.
Capability to review code, troubleshoot complex issues, and interact directly with production environments.
Clear communication skills to explain technical decisions and influence teams.
Strong product sense linking technical choices to customer and business outcomes.
Ability to operate effectively amid ambiguity and maintain ownership from conception to production.
Judgment regarding speed, simplification, and investment depth.
