Role Overview

The Lead Engineer - AI-Native Email App position at bjakcareer involves taking complete technical ownership of complex products and systems while raising the overall engineering standards. This is a hands-on leadership role where the individual will design systems, write and review code, solve challenging technical problems, mentor colleagues, and drive major initiatives from conception to production.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the technical design and execution of major products, features, and engineering initiatives.
Design scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems covering backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
Remain hands-on with engineering through coding, prototyping, code reviews, debugging, and production problem-solving.
Make architecture decisions and technical trade-offs balancing speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Break ambiguous product and technical challenges into clear engineering solutions and execution plans.
Set high standards for code quality, system design, testing, security, observability, and production reliability.
Review technical designs and code from peers while providing clear, actionable feedback.
Mentor engineers to strengthen technical capabilities across the organization.
Identify technical risks, bottlenecks, and architectural weaknesses early.
Collaborate closely with engineering, product, design, and AI teams to ship quality products swiftly.
Improve engineering tooling, development practices, and automation to elevate team velocity.
Own systems beyond release by monitoring production, investigating incidents, and improving reliability.

Requirements

Strong software engineering background with significant experience building and shipping production systems.
Deep technical expertise in areas such as backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
Strong system design and architecture skills for complex or high-scale systems.
Strong coding ability alongside a willingness to remain hands-on.
Proven experience leading major engineering projects or providing technical leadership.
Comfort with reviewing code, debugging complex issues, and working directly with production systems.
Ability to explain complex technical decisions clearly and influence cross-team engineers.
Strong product sense linking technical decisions to customer and business outcomes.
Ability to work quickly amidst ambiguity and take ownership from problem definition through production.
Sound judgment regarding when to move quickly, simplify, or invest deeper in engineering.
